Painting deserts and cacti obsessively can be a dangerous thing. The result being that you quit your job, sell your things and book a flight. Deserting Projects was a multimedia art exhibition exploring watercolour, acrylic, and clay in homage to The Great Western Deserts of North America. The process of making these artworks, studying sprawling deserts and skies, seemed to mirror my inner restlessness and relentless desire for freedom, change, and adventure. My first solo exhibition and launch of my artist persona: Alaska Young, a freer and ruthless alter ego that has haunted me for some time. We were both very excited.
